Wings and Halos

Wings and Halos.

In they come, don with their halos; blinding with celestial light. Out goes the shadows, out goes the dark, and let there be light. The path isn't an abyss but a clear lane into a meadow blossoming with sweet scented flowers and sunshine beaming down warming the cold soul they crossed. Time is non-existed here; everything here is calm, serene, and safe. Nothing here can ever hurt you, nothing here will ever reject you, this is a safe place or so you think. The days of safe passage are endless, smiles are mandatory, love flows freely and spills onto everything here. We are stars aligned, perfect combinations of everything good in life; places like this are rare and for someone with a stolen soul this is the ideal scene. Laying beneath the warm the sun, the shift can be felt far and wide; it starts small. The sun comes and goes, only stays for a while before disappearing; it no longer favors you and chooses to shine elsewhere. The soft grass become brittle and breaks upon touch, it no longer welcomes you. It becomes poison ivy, the sun becomes nothing more but a burned out star that has no more light to provide, no more warmth to give. The place slowly crumbles and your left in a barren land, desolated and filled with the very things you came here to escape from. Your lost, alone, and sadly have been abandoned. You soon realize those weren't halos...they were horns. Those weren't wings, they were black feathers glued together; that was light but it came from a florescent bulb. They gave, they took, they promised, they lied, the playground was just a chessboard and you were the pawn. Now, you stand among the ruins of the great field and path. You stand with just the shadow they left behind, the shadow of who you thought was just a disfigured shape. Only to see it was you all along, you who's wishes were to be one of them. Now realize you are all just alike, except your the one with nothing to show for it; and so the sun shines down on the grass. While the shadow is left to find the so called promised land...
